Chapter 7 – Level three – Day thirteen - part one.

Tuesday.

It was late in the morning before Ashton woke up. The bed was empty beside him, and the sound of laughter drifted up from downstairs. He stretched, feeling the pleasant soreness in his muscles, and slowly got dressed. As he descended the stairs, he caught snippets of a conversation that made him smile.

“Wait, he froze the whole settlement?” Julie asked, her voice filled with astonishment.

“He did, and then he protected me. He defended me. The guards were scared; I could see it in their eyes,” Lyra replied, her tone a mix of pride and affection.

Ashton smiled, remembering the incident vividly. Then, a sudden realization hit him, he had forgotten to unfreeze the settlement. Quickly, he opened his holographic screen and zoomed in on the settlement. Relief washed over him as he saw the villagers moving around normally. A small text message appeared on his screen: “I activated them after you left. Figured you forgot. Love, Star.”

Ashton chuckled and closed the screen. He stepped into the kitchen, where the smell of breakfast and the sight of his loved ones greeted him. “Good morning, girls,” he said warmly.

Lyra stood up and hurried over to him, her eyes sparkling with joy. She kissed him softly. “Good morning, husband,” she whispered, her tail swishing happily behind her.

Ashton hugged her tightly and smiled. “So, what are you all talking about?” he asked, curiosity piqued.

Julie smirked, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “You,” she said simply.

He raised an eyebrow. “Me?” he asked, feigning surprise.

Zalira, who had been sitting at the table, nodded. “Yes, we were telling stories about your heroics,” she explained.

Pyralis leaned forward, her eyes animated. “Zalira was just telling us how you defeated Thorgar Bloodcrusher, and Lyra was sharing how you helped her after she... borrowed... from you,” she said with a grin.

Lyra and Zalira both smiled and nodded in agreement, their eyes shining with fond memories.

“I was just about to tell them about that boy you brought back to life by the temple,” Pyralis continued, her voice filled with anticipation.

Ashton poured himself a cup of coffee and sat down at the table, feeling a deep sense of contentment. “Please, don’t let me stop you,” he said, leaning back in his chair.

Pyralis began her story, recounting every detail with vivid enthusiasm. “It was the day we married,” she started dramatically, making the others chuckle. “We were just about to enter the Temple of the Dragon when we heard a scream, a young boy, killed by a player. Ashton didn’t hesitate. He knelt beside the boy, his hands opening his holographic screen and force the boy to be reanimated, bringing him back to life. It was like watching magic.”

As she spoke, Ashton sipped his coffee, memories flooding back. He could still hear the boys scream as he was killed, the desperation in the air as he worked to save him. The room fell silent as Pyralis described how Ashton’s holographic screen had brought the boy back from death.
